New-ness

You forget how much your life changes when you have a new baby. I think it's a mechanism innately built in our brains so we humans will want to have more children. Aside from the feedings every 2 hours or so and the frequent diaper changes in those early days there are some nice side effects to having a new little person in your home. For one, family and visitors speak in easier, hushed tones. The older brother peeks over the side of the crib and whispers, "Baby Ezra, I love you." The most basic of daily needs, like getting a shower or eating, takes on a whole new meaning. Life gets simpler in some ways because of the focus on those few important tasks...feed the baby, feed the momma, change the baby, wash the baby, wash the momma, rinse and repeat. Small comforts like a warm meal and a swept floor have a whole new meaning when your hierarchy of needs suddenly changes because you are in charge of providing for this little one's shelter, safety, food, warmth, and overall well-being. But here we are again, doing the newborn thing for a second time...because it's worth it just to have this in your home.

New Baby Brother!

Monday, October 4, 2010 0730: The Acosta trio arrive at American Fork Hospital to become a family of four. Jack's last known photo as an Only Child.

The view outside the window...wouldn't have it any other way.

Hooked up to the monitor with the Pitocin flowin'. Since Jack was such a large baby we (meaning me) decided to induce a week early. Dr. Jones estimated the baby would arrive sometime around 4 pm. He was so right.

Baby Boy Acosta born 3:55pm. Labor took about 7 hours total with minimal damage to the mama. Nice.

The cord was wrapped a couple of times around Ezra's neck which made his face look somewhat paler than the rest of his body. A few minutes and a little oxygen brought him back to normal. Weight: 7 lbs 14.8 oz; 19 inches long.
